on video SKEMA POWER SUPPLY CT | TRAFO 3 AMPER

SKEMA POWER SUPPLY CT | TRAFO 3 AMPER

A Current Transformer (CT) burden VA is the amount of volt-ampere a current transformer must carry while in operation, this Burden VA must never exceed the CT own VA rating.

In this tutorial we calculate and make a comparison between the CT burden of a 1A secondary rated current and 5A secondary rated current.

This video is about building and using an adapter to convert the SCT013-100 current transformer for use with instruments that need a voltage, for example oscilloscopes, but you can use it with a normal multimeter as well, turning it into an inexpensive clamp meter with a range of up to 100 amps

Current transformer

Solve for the secondary transformer current and find the burden.

A 1500 to 5 current transformer is used to measure the current on a 230 kV line. If 115 Amps are flowing through the line, how many amps does the instrument see that is connected to the current transformer? If the impedance of the CT circuit is 1.15Ω then determine the burden.
