LED Chaser Rain Effect with Bright Trail - NE555 and CD4017 - PCB Tutorial
This is a Rain LED circuit using a NE555 and a CD4017. I have divided this circuit into two parts, the first with NE555 generates an (adjustable) frequency which issent to the CD4017 (Pin 3 NE555 to Pin 14 CD4017) The second part of the circuit, with CD4017, manages the LEDs, making them run at a speed set by the frequency that I just told you about (from NE555). LED speed can be adjusted by a 47KΩ trimmer... and in this second version I added some electrolytic capacitors to create a small bright trail effect.
Components:
- 1x NE555 IC
- 1x CD4017 IC
- 1x 330Ω Resistor 1/4 Watt
- 2x 1KΩ Resistor 1/4 Watt
- 1x 47KΩ Trimmer
- 1x 1uF @25/50/100V Electrolytic Capacitor
- 10x 4.7uF @25/50/100V Electrolytic Capacitor
- 1x 8 pin DIP (not mandatory if you solder the IC on PCB)
- 1x 16 pin DIP (not mandatory if you solder the IC on PCB)
- 20x LED 5mm (any color)
- 1x LED 3mm (PWR LED)
- 1x 1N4007 Diode (protection against polarity reversal)
