Vapor Compression Refrigeration System
Vapor-compression refrigeration is one of the many refrigeration cycles available for use. It has been and is the most widely used method for air-conditioning of large public buildings, offices, private residences, hotels, hospitals, theaters, restaurants and automobiles.
In this lecture, we discuss the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle. We are being by discussing the modifications required to a Carnot cycle in reverse to operate a practical refrigerator. This leads us to the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle. We also discuss the various components of the vapor-compression refrigerator. Finally, we consider an example problem of calculating the heat removal rate from the refrigerated space and the COP of a vapor compression refrigerator with R-134a as the working substance. We also compare the COP of this refrigerator with that operating on the reverse Carnot cycle.
