Check rail basically guides wheels near the junction so wheels do not hit crossing nose section. In this animation one more check rail supposed to be placed (inside of straight tracks' left-hand rail)near the three crossing noses. So wheels do not hit the crossing nose section(right side crossing nose on straight track while viewing toward train's moving direction )while trying to follow straight track as shown in last bogie motion.
