Say goodbye to glass fuses / 3 excellent short circuit protections
Definition and principle
The fuse or fuse circuit breaker is a security device designed to turn off the power during overload or short circuit (see here our article on the role of the fuse).
The main component of this device is a small insulator wraps a conductive wire that melts when it is traversed by a current current current to the supported caliber. Thus, it opens the electrical circuit during a period of overcurrent and prevents the fires as well as the destruction of the entire system.
The fuse guarantees the integrity of the power supply circuit.
Types of fuses and manufacturing standards
Fuses are visible in almost all old electrical installations. The operation of these devices is governed by IEC 60269. This standard regulates three modes of operation:
• GG fuse: very common on household facilities, it offers protection against short circuits and overloads
• AM Fuse: Used only against short circuits, for example in engines and primary circuits of transformers
• Ultra-fast fuse: designed to protect semiconductors
